The Night Before Payday

It was the night before payday, and all through the house everyone was wondering if money would be left. I used to pay bills by check, I hated it. Writing all those checks by hand entering the information in the checkbook, and hoping no mistakes were made. Then along came Money 2000 the finance program to end all your worries. Just enter the amount and the checks go flying away. It still meant writing all the amounts and addresses and account numbers and maybe you would have enough money left to eat lunch with. Also, when you paid bills by mail your money would last just a little longer. Later on came internet bill pay this was an even easier way to send out your money. With just a few mouse clicks, you can spend all your money in the comfort of your own home. For a long time I resisted automatic check deposit and debit cards, I liked to see and hold my money. I remember when I was younger, one of the things I enjoyed most during the summer was waking up early enough on Thursday morning and going with daddy to pay bills. This was time I could hang around with him. We would go to the mines and pick up his check and then go to the bank in Wylam. Then actually go to the business and pay the bills in person Daddy worked nights, and I only saw him for a few minutes during the week and on weekends when we were in school. During the summer I saw him every day. I would go just to be with him. This memory maybe why I like to be able to hold money. But like most of us, I found that it was convenient to have it direct deposited and to pay bills online. So now it is the night before payday and I am broke.
